Gov. Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has appealed to the U.S. Government to assist the state in its Information Communications Technology (ICT) programme.
Oshiomhole made the appeal when the U.S. Consular-General, Jeffery Hawkins, paid a courtesy visit to his office in Benin.
The governor who expressed concern over lack of data keeping added that the state was working to address the challenge using its ICT programme.
Oshiomhole also highlighted some of the achievements of his administration, noting that the just-concluded 10km Okpekpe Road Race was conceived to take development to rural areas.
He stressed that it would also check rural-urban drift.
The governor said that the state was sustaining its urban renewal programme through road construction, street lightning and expansion of existing roads and drainage.
Oshiomhole said that in tackling its flooding problems, the state had invested heavily on study of flooding challenges in Benin.
He said that the government was also constructing a hi-tech drainage and flood control system.
The governor said that plans had also been concluded to construct the largest fertiliser plant in Africa in Edo North, noting that the plant would be built by businessman Aliko Dangote.
Earlier, Hawkins said that he was in the state because of the U.S. Government's interest in the fertiliser plant.
He said that the U.S. was aware of developments in Edo.
Hawkins and his delegation were later conducted round some completed and ongoing projects in the state capital, including the Stomp Water Project.
