Emmanuel Ekuwem, chief executive officer, Teledom Group International, has called on the three tiers of government to utilize the efficacies of the technology in the expansion of available jobs in the society.
Ekuwem who participated during a panel discussion at Cyber Africa Forum held in Lagos recently argued that instead of various governments should focus on using available technology, especially the internet to expand existing jobs for the betterment of the teeming youths.
He added that new jobs demands more resources than already existing jobs, hence the society will witness a reduction in crimes, wastages, revenue generation and improved living through the means of jobs expansion.
The Teledom Boss said that innovation, enterprise, availability and affordability of the internet are tied to awareness, adding that the Country should create avenue for small business to utilize the internet in formalizing their business processes.
“There are still under-utilization of the internet by local traders. The power of the internet cannot be over-emphasized. Today, there are few Nigerians who are into exporting of local food-stuff because they embraced the internet. Can we imagine what will happen if our brothers and sisters at Alaba market in Lagos, Ariria in Aba and other markets scattered all over the country; if they embrace the internet to market their product. That will be massive,” he said.
His inspiration was drawn from the fact that content drives investments on the internet and Nigeria should not be left behind.
Ekuwem also called for Nigerian tertiary institutions curricula review, adding that, “acquisition of right skills is very important in the course of leveraging the internet for the benefit of all. Course contents that are archaic tie-down the youths who cannot innovate”.
He said, if the internet creates the market to showcase ideas, the three tiers of government should make sure there is market for the content created.
