Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has beefed up security in and around all the airports in the country, following the recent terrorist attacks at Belgium’s Zaventem Airport and Maelbeek Metro in Brussels

Authorities at the airport said they had reviewed security at the local and international wings of the airport. One of the measures is the evacuation of unclaimed luggage found within the departure and arrival halls while sniffer dogs have been deployed.

Mr Yakubu Dati, general manager, Corporate Affairs of FAAN, said that sniffer dogs had been deployed to airports in conjunction with the Nigerian Police and other security agencies.

According to Dati,  FAAN will not leave any stone unturned to ensure maximum security at the airports, especially with the Easter celebrations around the corner.

It expressed shock over the dastardly act carried out at the Brussels airport, warning those without business at the airport not to constitute nuisance.

The statement said that a special taskforce from the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) were on ground to apprehend touts.

It also said that all the body scanners and Close Circuit Television (CCTV) were operational and beaming activities of all at the airports.

The statement, therefore, advised passengers to arrive the airport on time to do their normal check in procedures in order not to miss their flights.
