Plans have been concluded by the management of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) for the testing of Murtala Muhammed Airport Emergency Response Plan with a Bomb Simulated Exercise slated for today, Saturday, 28th February, 2015 between the 1000hrs and 1100hrs in fulfillment of ICAO requirements for certification.
The drill, according to a notice by FAAN management yesterday evening, is intended to test the Airport's response procedures in the event of real bomb explosion at the Terminal Building.
The statement by Mr. Yakubu Dati, GM, Corporate Affairs at FAAN, read, “The Fed. Airports Authority of Nigeria hereby appeals to passengers and the general public not to panic as adequate arrangements have been put in place to ensure as safe an environment as possible while the exercise lasts.
“In addition, there will be no disruption to flight operations as a result of the exercise”.
The International Air transport Association (IATA) describes ‘The Emergency Response Plan’ (ERP), as an invaluable tool for all airport stakeholders, providing clear direction for action and exposing pain points that could aggravate a real response.
IATA also certifies operators by helping them to develop a response plan that brings together aircraft operators, airport authorities, ground service providers and state emergency response agencies.
