Sun, sea, sand and a hard day’s work! That’s the name of the game on M-Net’s new Face of Africa series, which has returned to TV screens in an expanded 17 part series.
Intense and more revealing than ever before, the first three episodes have already given audiences across the continent a closer, fresher, more intimate look at the search to find Africa’s newest catwalk sensation.
From learning the basic runway skills to tackling the challenges of cover-girl glamour, the new series delves into it all. From the tears to the triumphs, from bad hair days to the star turns, from the tough eliminations to the stand out successes, it’s all showcased in full color as some of the continent’s rising runway stars head into a whole new world of high fashion, high pressure modeling.
Last week, in episode four, presenter Kaone Kario introduced audiences to the next challenge of Model BootCamp – shooting an exotic television advert for Neptune Hotel in Mombasa. Focused on capturing the tranquil and relaxing spirit of a tropical paradise, the advert involved some hard work, and for the semi-finalists at Model BootCamp, it was their chance to show just how well they could take direction from a creative director and to show that they have what it takes to complete the long days and detailed work of being a top class model.
And if they don’t already know, they soon learn - the first lesson being that it takes much more than just looking good to be a successful model.
Audiences watched as the Face of Africa semi-finalists got prepped and then undertook the tasks at hand - floating over a serene sea on a Dhow dressed in white from head to toe where focus and balance is the difference between being on the water and being in it; plucking a crayfish from the ocean and then doing it repeatedly until the light is just right for the shot; lying completely and totally still on the shoreline dressed in a fashionable metallic gold swimsuit waiting for the perfect wave;  swimming underwater in a lime green bikini as take after take is shot for a segment that will last just a few perfect moments.
Encouraged, supported and guided by fashion expert and catwalk professional Juanita Daniel, the semi-finalists discover their talents, their ability to transform into the vision created by the design team and to prove that they too are destined to make their mark on Africa ’s vibrant fashion scene.
