Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) and the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) have partnered with the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA) to promote broader adoption of the .ng domain as a vital element of Nigeria’s digital sovereignty.

This initiative emerged on Sunday, October 19, during Tech Convergence 2.0 held in Abuja, where policymakers, government officials, and technology leaders discussed strategies to strengthen Nigeria’s digital footprint and promote the Nigeria first online agenda.
Speaking at the event on behalf of senate president Godswill Akpabio, senator Diket Plang emphasized the need for government institutions to take the lead in promoting Nigeria’s online identity.
“We now live in a digital world, and we must take ownership of our presence online, for us, the true mark of that ownership is through the .ng domain,” he said.
Shuaib Salisu, chairman of the senate committee on ICT and cybersecurity, added that Nigerians must understand we are stakeholders in our internet space and must promote what is ours.
Adesola Akinsanya, president of NiRA, described the .ng domain as a symbol of Nigerian digital pride, adding that NiRA’s mission is to build trust through national online identity.
“Our goal is to ensure every Nigerian is identifiable online through our digital identity, the .ng domain,” he said.
Ibukun Odusote, chairperson of NiRA’s board of trustees, also urged both public and private sectors to prioritise local digital infrastructure.
“There should be an urgent need to adopt what is ours, which is the .ng domain,” she said.
