Future of Broadband in Nigeria Looks Beautiful- Ajayi

Engr. Lanre Ajayi , president of the Nigeria Internet Group (NIG) has said that everything is pointing up to a brilliant future use of broadband and penetration in Nigeria.
He predicted that very soon, as indications are showing, there will be a broadband revolution in Nigeria just the same way we have GSM revolution in the country.  Ajayi while speaking to Nigeria Communications Week at the West African Communications Technology Congress, WAFICT 2009 held at the Expo Hall of the Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos  disclosed that the first indicator  to the growth of broadband  is that by next year we are going to have  a number of international cables that are going to  land in Nigeria to compete with SAT3.
He said there are at least two of them which we are sure of namely Glo 1 cable and MainOne cable. Ajayi said it is a good development and that the issue of spectrum through which operators would distribute bandwidth when they land in Nigeria is being sorted out saying that when spectrum is available that operators will be able to provide broadband services easily.
Further Ajayi said the Internet for Job (I4J) launched by his association to promote the use of the internet for businesses and for government with the hope of creating jobs is still on course. He said the programme is achieving its goal as many people are getting to be more conscious of the potentials of the internet.
Ajayi believes that with consistent education and awareness there will be migration from the negative use of the internet to positive use saying that more people will move their businesses gradually to the internet.
Next line of action for the programme, according to him i is  to cultivate and mobilize people who want to start e-business assuring of  his  group’s support to such people by linking them up with sponsors.
