When Sulaimon Adejumo talks about software engineering, he doesn’t just talk in terms of scale, uptime, or performance. He talks in kilowatts. In emissions. In how much energy your API call just consumed, and how to make sure the next one consumes less.

A Senior Software Engineer with deep roots in infrastructure and systems design, Sulaimon is part of a new breed of engineers rethinking how software affects the environment. Not just in theory, but in measurable, actionable terms. His work centers around one goal: designing software that is as kind to the planet as it is to users.
Sulaimon is a practitioner of Green Software Engineering, a field at the intersection of sustainability and computer science. While many teams optimize for speed or scalability, Sulaimon adds another critical metric: energy efficiency. “Every line of code has a carbon footprint,” he often reminds teams. “The question is: are we optimizing for that?”
But Sulaimon doesn’t preach. He proves. In project after project, he has developed systems that monitor energy consumption across software components from frontend load times to backend computation. He’s helped teams visualize where carbon usage spikes, and where it can be trimmed. His approach is methodical: track, analyze, and optimize.
One of his greatest challenges, and contributions, has been in quantifying what was once invisible. With cloud-based systems and microservices sprawled across providers and regions, the environmental impact of even a small product decision can be significant and easy to overlook. “We used to measure performance in milliseconds. Now, we also measure it in millijoules,” Sulaimon says with a smile.
To that end, he’s led the development of internal tooling that tracks compute intensity and storage use across deployments. He introduces engineering teams to carbon-aware development strategies like scheduling workloads for times of low grid impact, or caching to reduce unnecessary compute. Not because it's trendy, but because it's necessary. But what sets Sulaimon apart maybe isn't so much technical competence, it's his ability to drive change without angst. His co-workers describe him as a bridge-builder: he engages product managers, designers, and engineers in the sustainability conversation without shame or technical jargon. “He doesn’t shame people into caring,” one collaborator says. “He makes you want to.”
Sulaimon is also open with the trade-offs. The most environmentally friendly solution isn't always the lowest-cost or the fastest. But he believes engineering excellence is about making thoughtful, well-informed choices. “It’s not about writing perfect code,” he says. “It’s about writing conscious code.”
For teams building new systems, retrofitting old ones, Sulaimon has become a go-to partner in designing for both impact and efficiency. His work is shaping not just how products perform, but how they behave in the ecosystem they’re deployed in.
He’s not waving a green flag in the air. He’s coding one into the system.
