Headies Award 2018 and Arsenal Vs Burnley match lead this week’s Google most searched item in Nigeria.
Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, Google's Communications & Public Affairs Manager, West Africa, disclosed this in a dispatch on Wednesday in Lagos.
According to him, “Over the weekend, the 2018 Headies Awards were held at the Convention Centre, Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos.
“The annual awards, now in their 12th edition, saw Davido lead the recipients list with four awards, including artist and song of the year. Wizkid followed with three awards, while Simi won the album of the year.
Fans raced to Google to see the full award list, making ‘ Headies Award 2018’ a top trending term.” he stated.
The Google Communications Manager said that Arsenal Vs Burnley match trended because Arsenal gave Arsene Wenger a memorable farewell with a 5-0 win against Burnley in his last home game as the London club’s manager in the ongoing English Premier League on Sunday.
He said, “Arsenal is now in sixth place in the Premier League, which means its place in Europa League group stage is secure for the next season. Burnley, meanwhile, will finish seventh.
“This game was Wenger's 606th and final home game in charge of Arsenal and also the 27th time his team have won by five or more goals on home soil.
Kola-Ogunlade, said that Met Gala was another top trended story this week.
According to him, “Met Gala is an annual fundraising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York City and also marks the grand opening of the Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibit.
“The 2018 MET Gala, held on the first Monday in May, was themed ‘ Heavenly Bodies — Fashion and the Catholic Imagination’.
“The event was graced by celebrities including Katy Perry, Kim Kardashian, Madonna, Solange, and Rihanna. All wore stunning Catholic-inspired ensembles on the red carpet.
“As the show aired, fans and viewers took to Google to see what everyone was wearing, making ‘Met Gala 2018’ a top trending term,” he added.
The Communications Manager said that, Sir Alexander Chapman Ferguson, Former Manchester United manager sudden rush to Salford Royal Hospital on Saturday after reportedly suffering a brain haemorrhage made Google search this week.
The 76 year old is now in intensive care after undergoing emergency brain surgery.
Ferguson reportedly asked his son how Doncaster Rovers had fared in their final game of the season after waking up from his surgery. Unfortunately, they lost the game by 1-0.
His former club Manchester United, as well as football fans around the globe, have shown great support following his surgery wishing him a speedy recovery.
