The Semi-final of Nigeria’s foremost indigenous music talent show, Hi-Life Fest, took place in Enugu on Sunday, August 4th, as the remaining contestants in the competition continued their journey to becoming the 2019 Hi-Life Fest champion.
After a thrilling quarterfinal show in Port-Harcourt which saw the elimination of two contestants, the surviving six artists graced the stage in Enugu, hoping to do enough to earn a spot in the final.
The judges on the night included highlife legend, Bright Chimezie, Singer/actor, David Jones David, as well as popular dance scholar, Dr. Akaz. The trio were joined by guest judge Sunny Nneji
The shoprite grounds in the Coal City served as the venue for the semi-final and it was packed full of enthusiasts of highlife music who were relishing the second opportunity to experience the show for the second time, after the regional knock-out in Enugu.
The show kicked off with each of the contestants performing popular highlife tunes, much to the delight of the audience who cheered on their favourite contestants.
The dancing category also lit up the stage as the competing troupes delivered astounding routines which had the crowd yearning for more
Life Beer Ambassador Phyno graced the stage to thrill the guests. The indigenous rapper who was performing in his home state, sent the crowd into a frenzy as he churned out hits from his expansive repertoire while they enjoyed their refreshing Life Continental Lager.
As proceedings for the day came to a conclusion, Prince Destiny and Cypril Igwe were eliminated, while four contestants will proceed to the finals. In the dance category, all 3 performers proceeded to the final.
The grand finale of Hi-Life Fest will take place in Onitsha on August 18 and it promises to be a festival of great indigenous music from the contestants and special guests performers.
This year, the overall winner of the show takes home a whopping sum of N5 million cash prize, while the first and second runner-ups will go home with N2 million and N1 million respectively, courtesy of Life Continental Lager.
Weekly episodes of the competition are currently being aired on SoundCity TV every Sunday at 8 p.m.
