Lágbájá Hits Project Fame Season 3

Lagbaja, the masked one was at the Project fame Academy last week and mentored contestants in the Academy before moving on to perform as a guest artiste and judge at the weekend.
His mask and name symbolize the faceless and the voiceless in the society, particularly in Africa. His stage name Lágbájá means ‘somebody, everybody and nobody in particular’. His anonymity and elaborate costumes invoke the ancient tradition of Yoruba Egungun (ancestral) masquerades.
Lágbájá’s music continues to fascinate with its unique focus on a core of African drums and the use of the saxophone. The groovy fusion of his music has been referred to as afro jazz, afro beat, highlife and afro pop, but he himself has christened the music Africano, alluding mostly to the central role of African drums and grooves in his music.
He is fast emerging in the forefront of contemporary African music, rich in the traditions of the continent while cosmopolitan in attitude. He is a multi award winning musician and has taken his music beyond the shores of Nigeria, performing in festivals and venues around the world.
There was so much excitement in the air as all the contestants were set to perform different African songs by celebrated legends. The contestants looked regal and the hosts were not left out either, Adora and Benjamin looked gorgeous. The masked man ‘LAGBAJA’ himself was a guest judge. In addition he had visited and mentored the contestants in the Academy earlier in the week.
Akwa-ibom dude, Eyo opened the floor with the Legendary Fela’s ‘Lady’. It was a good performance that earned Lagbaja’s commendation. The Faculty liked the humour as he delivered the song.
Shehu wowed everyone as he performed ‘Coolu Temper’ by Lagbaja. His costume replicated Lagbaja’s characteristic look. At the end of the performance, he got a standing ovation. Shehu has stepped up his game. The Judges actually told him to take a bow after his wonderful performance.
Next was Joecelia, she did a very good rendition of Mariam Makeba’s ‘I shall sing’. Monica gorgeously dressed in her green and white attire sang  ‘Nigeria go survive’ by Veno.  Kesse, the guy with the ‘Ghanaian Swagger’, performed ‘Dambebi’ by Ofori Amponsah. He wowed the audience with this Ghanaian love song.
Small but Mighty Chidinma sang Mariam Makeba’s ‘Ipi Tombia’ with less movement but with a lot of energy. Rhoda was not laid back at all with her performance. With elegance and energy,  she excellently delivered Yvonne Chaka Chaka’s ‘I’m burning up’. Helen sang ‘Taxi driver’ by Mandy Brown. Vwede was not left out in the race; he performed Mike Okri’s ‘Rhumba dance’. Tolu was the man of the night. With Fela’s characteristic attitude and great costume, he performed  ‘PALAVA’. A standing ovation from the Judges, Faculty and the entire audience was awarded to Tolu for this fantastic performance. Adebola performed ‘Thank you Mr. DJ’  by ‘Yvonne Chaka Chaka’. Yetunde, with her superstar attitude raised the bar as she dramatically delivered Angelique Kidjo’s ‘Wombo Lombo’.
Christian performed ‘Wo Se Keta A Bae Mu’ by Daddy Lumba. He blew everyone away with this daring performance of a love song.  Ochuko wrapped up the evening’s performance with Lagbaja’s ‘Konko Below’. It was a beautiful performance, Lagbaja was very impressed with his performance, and he commended Ochuko for a job well-done.
Finally, Lagbaja got the entire studio audience on their feet with his fantastic performance of ‘Nothing for You’ and ‘Skentele Skontolo’.
