Ministry of Communication Technology will spend N95 million to junket around the world next year according a breakdown of the 2013 budget.
A further breakdown showed that the ministry will use N41 million to travel around the world and another N54 million for trips round the country.
Also the ministry is to spend N18 million on refreshments and N15 million to fuel its motor vehicles while another N16 million will be spent on information technology consulting.
The ministry’s welfare package will gulp N31 million.
The Information and Communications Technology is arguably the best performing sector in the country’s economy hobbled by years of mismanagement and neglect.
The sector offers a world of opportunities to Nigerians but in spite of the gains, a number of challenges confront the sector, hindering its anticipated advancement.
And despite the creation of the ministry of Communication Technology and demonstration of enough political will by the President, the sector is yet to click.
Plagued by organized chaos including wasteful duplication of functions; multiple taxes; and so on, the industry is far from achieving domestic value-added and healthy growth.
