Current Miss Insurance, Eberechukwu Chinyere Onuora, as part of her pledge to curtail infant mortality, recently donated items to pregnant women at the Oba Adeyinka Oyekan 11 Memorial Health Centre, in Lagos.
This was also as part of the insurance awareness campaign, put in place by the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN).
These items are drugs, mosquito nets, and delivery pads among others. The items were earlier donated to Miss Onuora, by Niger Insurance plc, as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR).
According to the Queen, the donation was also predicated on the need to make Nigerians know the benefits inherent in taking insurance cover, as a form of protection against the vagaries of life, be it property or family.
Onuora explained that “Insurance is a very important part of our life, which is meant to take away worry, take away risk and assure a piece of mind.’ She stated further that insurance was also a valuable tool to taking care of our lives, especially if death takes away one’s wife or husband. She said that insurance ‘takes care of your children’s education and also takes care of your old age.’
While encouraging people to embrace insurance, Onuora added that insurance was vital to restoring the insured to their pre- disaster level. Using fire incident as a case study, she told them that Justifying the necessity of insurance in our day to day life, she said that in the event of a loss,‘ Insurance will pay the insured the necessary compensation that will enable the victim to continue his /her business.
Responding on behalf of the recipients, the matron of the Health Centre, Mrs. Christiana Adekoya, matron of the centre thanked the Queen for her kind gesture, adding that besides the donation, her awareness campaign has further helped them to understand the importance of insurance.
