The conferment of a posthumous national honour of Grand Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (GCFR) on late Nigerian businessman and politician, Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola (popularly known as MKO Abiola),by President Muhammadu Buhari topped Google search Nigeria over the last seven days.
Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade,Communications & Public Affairs Manager, Google, West Africa, disclosed this through a statement made available on Thursday, in Lagos.
He noted that Abiola, who won the first democratic presidential election in Nigeria on June 12, 1993 and was assassinated shortly after.was honored after 25 years of annulment of the election.
He said, "Following the conferment, President Buhari declared June 12 as Democracy Day in Nigeria and the Lagos State Government also unveiled a giant statue in honour of the 25th anniversary of MKO Abiola’s election win 25 years ago.
"Excited Nigerians took to Google to read more about Abiola’s legacy, making ‘MKO Abiola’ a top trending search term."
According to the Google Manager, another trended search this past seven day, was the news of the search for a woman who allegedly jumped into the Lagos Lagoon on Sunday is still ongoing.
He said that, the moment the incident was reported, officials from the Lagos State emergency management agency, Marine Police, and local divers began a search for her body, which is yet to be found.
"Since the news of the woman who jumped into the Lagos Lagoon broke, speculation as to her identity and why she committed suicide has been rife,he stated.
The historic meeting between North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un and United States President Donald Trump, which took place on Tuesday morning in Singapore, generated a lot of search interest from people.
Kola-Ogunlade, noted that, Since the closed-door summit on Tuesday, there has been speculation as to what was said and agreed to by both leaders, making ‘Kim Jong Un’ a trending search term this week.
However, It was the first-ever meeting between a US president and the North Korean leader.

Kola-Ogunlade, said that the conviction of Joshua Dariya,Former Governor of Plateau State, who was sentenced to 14 years’ imprisonment on Tuesday by a judge in Abuja trended on Google search.
"Dariya was charged with criminal breach of trust and misappropriation of public funds of the sum of N1.16 billion.
"The charges were brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in 2007.
"Reactions to the sentencing were mixed and people took to Google to search for further information on the charges leveled against him, making ‘Joshua Dariye’ a top trending term," he added.
