As part of its ‘transformation’ project agenda aimed at positioning the Nigerian aviation industry, the Nigerian aviation handling company, (NAHCO Aviance) last week received 325 different types of ground support equipment worth N2 billion, Nigeria CommunicationsWeek can report. Sanya Onayoade, Head, corporate communications, NACHO Aviance, said the equipment which started arriving last week had been ordered since 2011. He stated that gadgets were made up of two units of wide body push back, six units of motorised conveyor belt, 12 units of passenger step, and three units of motorised toilet ‘bowser’. Also on the list were 12 units of ground power unit, four units of air start unit, 80 units of container dollies, 100 units of pallet dollies as well as 40 units of baggage carts. Onayoade said a total of 17 different types of forklifts made up of four units of five tonnes, three units of seven tonnes, eight units of three tonnes and two units of 12 tonnes had been received. Norbert Bielderman, NAHCO chief operating officer also listed other items as 15 units of tow tractors from the US, 11 different types of tow bar as well as three units of AC-Unit and a mobile workshop from Mallaghan of Northern Ireland. Kayode Oluwasegun-Ojo, managing director, NAHCO Aviance, said the company’s heavy investment in new equipment forms part of the bedrock it’s transformation project which entail infrastructural renewal and re-fleeting of GSEs. The transformation transcends equipment renewal to efficient service delivery aimed at supporting government’s vision for airport modernization. The idea he noted is to open up the aviation sector for much-needed inflow FDI. “We at NAHCO Aviance Plc should be at the forefront of change and to attain this, we must move at the speed of change,” Oluwasegun-Ojo affirmed. He reiterated the importance of aviation to economic development, saying the industry currently offered the fastest commercial means of moving goods and persons. “It means we are at the cutting-edge of transportation technology,” he added.
