National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has suspended the broadcast license of Adaba FM, an Akure based station, for two weeks with effect from May 11, 2009.
This is following the failure of the management of the station to comply with an earlier sanction of N500,000 imposed by the Commission for the contravention of sections 3.1.2 and 1.4.4 of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code.
It would be recalled that on April 27, NBC imposed a fine of N500,000 on Adaba FM for breaching the rules of election coverage in Nigeria, and was given till May 8 to pay or face higher sanction. Subsequently, it failed to comply.
Awwalu Salihu, NBC’s head of Public Affairs said the station has been warned of a more severe sanction should it fail to comply within the stipulated time.
