NCAA Stops FirstNation Airways Operations over Airworthiness

Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has downscaled the Certificate of Airworthiness of FirstNation Airways as a scheduled operator to a non-scheduled operator.

The NCAA's action is allegedly due to an alleged violation of safety procedures on the part of the airline.

The airline, therefore, rested its schedule flight operations - it will now offer only charter services.

Capt. Muhtar Usman, director-general, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, disclosed this on Monday, August 21.

Usman said: "The airline had scaled down its operations from schedule operator to non-schedule."

"The status will remain so until it improves its aircraft fleet to at least two and also meets the requirements for schedule services.

"So, they are no longer into schedule service until they are able to meet the requirement for scheduled service."

Usman added that the essence of sanctioning any operator or organisation in the industry is not punitive, but to serve as a corrective measure to prevent recurrence.

FirstNation was also recently fined N33.5m for violating safety procedures.
