Nigerian Wins Nkrumah Prize for Scientific Innovation

Prof. Kayode Adebowale, Nigerian scientist, has been awarded the 2014 Kwame Nkrumah Scientific Prize in the field of basic science, technology and innovation.

Adebowale was conferred with the award on Thursday in Addis Ababa during the 22nd Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union.

NAN reported  that he is a professor of industrial chemistry at the University of Ibadan.
The Nigerian jointly won this year’s award with Prof. Andre Bationo of Burkina Faso, who won in the field of earth and life sciences.

The value of the continental scientific award, established by the African Union Commission (AUC) in 2008, is 100,000 dollars for each scientific sector.

Prof. Viola Onwuliri, supervising minister, Foreign Affairs,  congratulated Adebowale for making the nation proud.

She said “it is a plus for the transformation agenda in education and good motivation for Nigerians to excel internationally.

“This award will help to build confidence in the Nigerian nation and for me as a scientist, I am very excited that a colleague of mine received this award.’’
