According to the forecast by Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) States in the middle belt will witness early rainfall this year.

The States listed in the agency’s seasonal rainfall prediction include Benue, Kogi, Nasarwa, Plateau, Niger and the Federal Capital Territory.

Prof. Sani Mashi, Director General NiMet, said, “The hammattan period is becoming shorter because the south westerly air mass is already overpowering north easterly air mass over the central northern Nigeria.

“So the implication of this is that we are likely to have early commencement of rain within the central northern Nigeria.”

He didn’t give further specifics and the forecasts for other regions of the country saying the SRP that will soon be launched will reveal all those details.

Speaking on the density of weather stations and NiMet’s capacity to capture weather events in all parts of the country, he said,

“NiMet is partnering with educational institutions across the country to leverage on their weather stations to increase its capacity in generating weather information
