The domain names count from January to June 2016 include 14,966 registrations and 9,271 renewals, the Nigerian internet Registration Association (NiRA) has disclosed.

The Association in its enewsletter released at the weekend, highlighted that Sunday Folayan, the president of NiRA recently led the executive board a scheduled visit to the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Abuja.

The President said that in June 2016, 2,767 new domain names were registered, 1,686 domain names were renewed and there were 96 transfers between the NiRA Accredited Registrars.

“The renewal rate is encouraging as well. The table and graph below depict the domain name registrations and renewals for the past three months period of April, May, June 2016 across the years”, the table shows.

Similarly, the President last Wednesday Folayan led the Executive Board of Directors, Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA) to the Management Team, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Abuja to present the NiRA 2015 annual report, on the management of the Nigerian ccTLD - the .ng in accordance with the MOU between NITDA and NIRA.

Highlighting on the annual presentation of the Board's stewardship of NIRA to the Management of NITDA under the leadership of Dr. Vincent Olatunji in Abuja, the President said it was a successful outing.

Major highlight of the report included, major activities of NiRA for the year 2015; Income generation strategies; Financial summary; and Major 2016 financial Plans.

“The event provided an opportunity for us to present the DG with the hard copies of the organization’s financial report.

“The Ag. Director General, Dr. Vincent Olatunji appreciated our team for a detailed report and assured the organization of NITDA support for NiRA programs and projects.

“I appreciate my colleagues on the NiRA Board who attended the presentation, the Secretariat staff for their steadfastness and all our partners including the Registrars, Registrants, stakeholders, the press and everyone that is helping to project the .ng ccTLD brand,” he said.
