Senator Idris Umar, minister of Transport, has highlighted how Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) moved from its 2012 dismal performance of 13 per cent in budget implementation, to a glowing 72 percent this year.

Also the minister disclosed that Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), has so far achieved a 46 percent implementation of its budget.

Umar noted that the NPA had also remitted a whooping N15 billion as against N309 million by NIMASA, to the coffers of the Federal Government.

He however failed to explain the odds confronted by the two agencies.

A summary of the Umar’s submission in the performance evaluation report of his ministry and its parastatals to the FEC at its recent meeting chaired by President Goodluck Jonathan showed that the NPA remitted N15 billion into the federation account last year from a total sum of N128 billion it generated; when NIMASA’s stood at 45.64 per cent while the agency remitted N309 million into the coffers of government.

The minister explained that about N49.6 billion capital expenditure was budgeted for the ministry while 56 per cent, about N26 billion was accessed.

Senator Umar however maintained that all the agencies under his ministry worked assiduously, to ensure that they met the performance targets in line with the performance contract signed with the President.
