Nigerians can today have their say in matters that concern them thanks to ‘People’s Parliament’; a programme on Raypower FM 100.5 and Star FM 101.5.
The programme is officially called People’s Parliament: Fact File on Raypower and People’s Parliament: Talk Back on Star FM.
Anchored by Kunle on Raypower; Mofe and Moyo on Star FM, it gives a whole new meaning to radio broadcasting and demonstrates that radio goes beyond plain amusement.
The objectives of the programme are to sensitize the public on happenings around the country and appeal to relevant authorities, to act positively on matters concerning the Nigerian society. In other words, it is tailored to help shape policy making within the government bureaucracy.
At each forum, the anchorperson brings up a topical issue affecting the society and then opens the lines for discussions.
Participation on the programme is either through phone call or through SMS and opinions are expected to be aired without reservations.
Tuning to these stations on weekday mornings, you would marvel at the array of parliamentarians and also observe the disregard for religious, political and tribal allegiances.
People’s Parliament is a clarion call for every person in Nigeria to make meaningful contributions to discussions bordering on their existence as well as use the radio medium to reach out to others and educate them on pertinent and current subjects.
It gives the participant a sense of belonging and relevance in the society.
There is need for other radio stations in Nigeria to emulate Raypower and Star FM and introduce similar programmes that would enable listeners express their opinions about social, economic and political issues across the country, considering that majority of the people do not get involved in the law/decision making process.

All they need is some airtime on their phones and be sure to tune in to Star and Raypower FM stations every weekday morning from 8:00am. They can afford to participate on both stations as the programmes run back-to-back starting with Star FM.
