Engr. Yomi Bolarinwa’s appointment as the substantive director general of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has been approved by President Umaru Musa.
In the letter conveying the approval, Prof. Dora Akunyili, minister of Information and Communications, congratulated the DG on his appointment, which took effect from 17th February 2009.
A Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Bolarinwa rose through the ranks from engineering assistant at the WNTV/WNBS, Ibadan in 1975, and was part of the transition to the NTV/NTA system in Ibadan, from where he moved to NTA Abeokuta, where he became a chief engineer in 1989.
Bolarinwa joined the National Broadcasting Commission in 1994 as an assistant director, Engineering. He became a director in 2001, and the director of Engineering in 2003.
He has been acting as the director general since March 2007.
On the international scene, Engr. Bolarinwa headed the Nigerian delegation to the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) Radio Communication Conference on Digital Broadcasting for Region I & II, where the Nigerian Digital Plan was approved.
He is the current vice chairman of the ITU Study Group 6, which deals with broadcasting services.
He is married with children, and has yet another kid coming – digitisation.
