President Goodluck Jonathan has commissioned Nigeria Maritime University, located in Delta State.
Similarly, the President unveiled dockyard facilities belonging to the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), geared towards boosting shipment and Maritime operations in the country.
During the commissioning of the Maritime University in Delta State, he advised the industry stakeholders to take into cognizance issues of maintenance and security to ensure protection of lives and properties.
President Jonathan further stressed that the Maritime University will create room for employment for in the Niger Delta region, and the country at large, to prevent youth restiveness and militancy.
He urged the people of the State, especially the community to be law abiding and co-operation with NIMASA for peaceful co-existence.
Earlier, Ziakede Patrick Akpobolekeme, director-general of NIMASA, thanked the president for finding time, in spite his tight schedule in unveiling the dockyard facility.
He promised to attract more development to the coastal community and responsibilities of the Agency.
He enjoined the community to co-operate with the agency, in ensuring that the facilities are not vandalized.
The president was accompanied by the State Governor, Members of National Assembly and Traditional Rulers.
Meanwhile, the President at the commissioning of the dockyard facilities extolled the Agency for a job well done.
He added that the project has justified the huge budgetary allocation accrued to the Agency.
He enjoined the management not to relent on their oars in ensuring that the project is completed before middle of next year.
In his speech, NIMASA boss enjoined the people of the region, especially the community to take advantage of this projection to develop interest in marine studies, since they are domiciled around rive-line area.
He encouraged the youth to shun social vices and other related criminal activities such as armed robbery, kidnapping, oil bunkering, pipeline vandals.
Akpobolokeme, added that by this initiative, they stand a chance in building bright future in maritime administration and engineering which will enable them become major players in the industry.
