The editorial board and management of Communication Week Media, publishers of Nigeria CommunicationsWeek, at this year's Beacon of ICT distinguish lecture/award, recognised Mrs. Aderonke Okuneye-Oyeyemi, founder/chief executive officer, PTL Courier Limited as the 'Courier Personality of the Year'.
Lara as fondly called by friends and associates, was at Tom Associates, having to consult for a courier company, and got exposed to courier services, which gave birth to PTL Courier Limited, which has integrated ICT in its business process.
PTL Courier Limited is one of the fasted growing domestic courier/postal companies in Nigeria.
Born on the 1st of March, 1965, she is a Princess from Ijebu-Ode and married to Dr. (TM) Tiwatayo Oyeyemi.
Lara, finished at the then Lagos State College of Education and proceeded to bag a degree In Political science (B.Sc.) from University of Jos.
As a member of Chartered Institute of Bankers; she worked with Commerce Bank Ltd., from where she moved to Palm Computers Limited as the Pioneer Managing Director.
Lara later moved to Tom Associates, a Management Consultancy and Training outfit.
Her wealth of experience is certainly an asset to the industry.
Notably, Lara as a genius in Logistics and courier business and networking, has great team spirit, instructive managerial prowess, and professionally disciplined.
Ken Nwogbo, editor-in-chief/CEO, CommunicationsWeek Media Limited, described Lara as one who has registered her name as a Nigerian woman of substance having led somewhat revolution to PTL Courier Limited expanding to several cities in Nigeria such as Lagos, Port Harcourt, Osun, and several other Northern parts of the country, in spite the hostile business environment.
"She is never satisfied with the number of people the Company has employed so far; showing her resilience and penchant interest in giving the Youths opportunity to discover their purpose while working," he said.
The Awardee is also a member of Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM); widely travelled and had attended several courses both at home and abroad.
Mrs. Aderonke Okuneye-Oyeyemi while speaking on award, said she felt elated and humbled by the honour done on her.
“I am so impressed with this award which shows Communication Week Media’s recognition of our collective efforts at PTL Courier to add value to the society. I also see it a call to do more.
“Apparently, all things being equal, the courier sector in Nigeria is capable of generating employment for our teeming youths; it needs support of the government and others investors; so when men of the fourth estate of the realm single you out from among equals, it is a thing of joy,” she said.
Presently, Lara is the Vice-president of the Association of Nigeria Courier Operators (ANCO).
ANCO is the umbrella body for the indigenous courier companies in Nigeria. Lara is one of the leading voices for the reform of the nation’s courier sector.
