Forbes Africa has printed its annual list 30 under 30 list which recognises the most promising entrepreneurs building businesses in Africa.

Sliide Airtime’s CEO and Co-Founder Mr Corbyn Munnik (aged 26) appears in the list for the first time alongside a range of other entrepreneurs including Iyinoluwa Aboyeji, CEO of Flutterwave ($100m market cap) and Knight Ganje, H&G Advertising Group ($38 million in turnover).

Ancillar Mangena at Forbes Africa who compiled the list said: “Every year, we go on the hunt for the most promising entrepreneurs Africa has to offer. We favour innovators and problem solvers creating jobs in Africa. I am proud of the under 30s. I call them my babies not only because we have spent so much time talking back and forth, they let me into their lives and even share some of their deepest secrets and fears but because I have faith in their abilities to be the billionaires of tomorrow.

In my books, Corbyn’s innovation of Sliide Airtime is innovative and the potentials for growth are endless.”

In February Sliide Airtime was named the World’s Most Innovative App at the Global Mobile World awards, dubbed the ‘Oscars’ of the global telecom industry. Last year at the AppsAfrica Innovation awards held during AfricaCom in Cape Town, Sliide Airtime won the prestigious title of Best African App, beating off competition from more than 200 submissions from 25 countries.

Sliide Airtime was designed to solve a real-life problem for hundreds of millions of people living in Africa and other emerging markets; data is expensive relative to incomes.

Sliide provides users with an easy way to earn free airtime – and discover new content. It sends personalised news and stories from national and international publishers as well as sponsored content and adverts straight to the lock screen of phones.

Sliide uses 65% of its advertising revenues to buy mobile data from MNOs to give to its users – who can then earn more airtime by completing tasks such as answering surveys from brands.

Following its launch in Nigeria in March 2016, Sliide made an immediate impact, with every single one of its users continuing to receive free airtime every month. Advertisers including Unilever use Sliide because it gives them a now-proven mobile advertising channel.

Corbyn Munnik, CEO and founder of Sliide Airtime, said: “This is a wonderful honour and I intend to repay the faith of the judges in the years ahead by continuing to help Africa realise the potential that we all know exists here. Thank you Forbes, and thanks also to my fantastic team for all their support and hard work.

“We are now raising funds to expand into additional markets; there’s a lot more to achieve as we continue to expand and scale up our offering.”

Sliide’s competitors are Unlockd and Buzzvil. Unlockd is live in Australia, the US and UK and backed by a number of high profile investors in Australia including Lachlan Murdoch. Buzzvil is headquartered in Korea and has users there as well as in Japan, Taiwan and the US.

The Sliide Airtime Android app can be downloaded from the Google Play Store or directly from www.sliideairtime.com
