The Sokoto State Government is set to implement the ‘One Laptop Per Child’ (OLPC) project through its Ministry of Education and Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, to improve education delivery in the state.
Alhaji Nasiru Shehu Zarummai, special adviser to the Governor on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) divulged this in a media brief on the activities of his department.
He said the project when completed, would enhance ICT education in primary and secondary schools, thereby improving the standard of education across the state.
The Sokoto School Network Project, he said would be launched soon and would be fully supported by OLPC, adding that they had partnered Microsoft for the provision of Internet access to Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto and secondary schools under the Ministry of Science and Technical Education, as well as the training of 100 staff and 200 teachers of these institutions.
Zarummai informed that the state intends to use ICT to reduce youth restiveness; promote economic potentials; quality public service delivery; initiate and maintain quality healthcare delivery system, among others.
He also said that free open ICT training on computer appreciation, internet security, ICT policy, e-business, online threat management and opportunities, among others would soon commence in the state.
