Members of the startup community in Uyo gathered at the Start Innovation Hub, to witness the Uyo edition of the #StartupSouth3 Pre-Conference on recently.

The Pre-Conferences, held in various cities in the South-South and South-East regions of Nigeria, is to prepare members of the startup communities in the respective cities for the main conference, scheduled for November 9, 2017, in Aba City.

In opening the event, Mr Uche Aniche, #StartupSouth convener, thanked the community for their hospitality, and noted that the essence of the Pre-Conference was to help them understand what to expect from the main conference.

He disclosed that a number of investors would be in attendance, and prepped them on what to expect. He also stated that founders and their teams should focus on building strong businesses and not on raising funds.

He further urged the attendees to avoid promotion of the negative narrative associated with the south-south and south-east region.

Mr Hanson Johnson and Mr Bereni Fiberesima were honoured for their roles in building the Uyo and Port Harcourt startup ecosystem respectively.

Panel Discussions

Two panel discussions occurred and panelists were introduced by host MC Edidiong Anny Asikpo.

Sam Ediem, Christian Jumbo and Nsikak Thompson led conversations on "Ecosystem State of the Union: Prospects, Challenges and the Future" and were moderated by Uche Aniche.

Second panel discussions were led by Francis Onuk, Bereni D. Fiberesima and Ben Akpan and moderated by Hanson Johnson on "Exploring opportunities in Aba and other manufacturing clusters using technology".

There were other activities like networking, Kahoot and pitching.

The pitch session featured Matthew Okechukwu (Hairops), John Agbai (Textbooks.ng), Kelechi Ogbonna (Getcloths) and Mba Derek (BankAlert).
