SuperSport has acquired exclusive rights for the full coverage of the 2010 FIFA World Cup taking place in South Africa, and will broadcast the competition live across sub-Saharan Africa, excluding South Africa.
At a Lagos event to announce this new development to the Nigerian public, Imitiaz Patel, CEO, SuperSports International stated: “To now be able to bring this prestigious event to Africa the first time it is happening on the continent, is indeed a special and proud moment. Viewers can now look forward to quality coverage and we already have plans in place to compliment the live action with superb supplementary product.”
The cable network also announced that it has acquired the rights to broadcast the Spanish premier league, A.K.A La Liga; across the African continent.
SuperSports will broadcast 4 live matches every weekend, according to the new deal, which will last for 3 years beginning from August.
The Spanish league will complement the Nigerian, English, Italian and Portuguese leagues currently airing on the SuperSport channels.
