Mohammed Tukur Lamido, a 41 year old leather trader from Yobe was the star winner of the Etisalat FC Barcelona promo as he went home with a brand new Mercedes Benz G550 Wagon.
That was the highlight of the spectacular end to the promo last weekend, at the company’s head office in Lagos where other prizes were presented to the last batch of winners.
Other customers also smiled home with fantastic prizes, including Gbenga Adebayo who won prizes in several categories including the N500,000 daily cash prize, LCD television, and a Blackberry device.
Prizes were also presented to the winners of N500,000 daily draws and return tickets to watch FC Barcelona in action live at the Camp Nou in Barcelona, Spain.
Matthew Willsher, chief commercial officer, Etisalat Nigeria, while congratulating the winners explained that his company had to connect with its customers at their point of passion to further excite and reward them using something they love.
According to him, “Football is a huge passion worldwide. We are proud to be the official partners of the FC Barcelona, the most prestigious club in the world. At Etisalat, we are delighted to bring the best products and services to our subscribers which we have been doing in Nigeria for about five years now.”
“It is amazing how the lives of our customers are being transformed by everything we do, including this promo,” Willsher said. He pointed out that Lamido is the third person to win a Mercedes Benz SUV from this year’s promo after Stephen Mbah, a mechanic won an ML350 in July and Blessing Fubara, a student won a GL450 in August. “A total of 180 customers won N500,000 through the daily draws in this year’s promo,” he added.
Emmanuel Onyemenam, deputy manager with the National Lottery Commission used the occasion to encourage people to participate in promos because “the commission is there to protect your interest.” To buttress his point, he explained how he has been in touch with Mbah even after his prize has been presented to him.
An excited Lamido, speaking through an interpreter expressed joy at his transformation, thanking Etisalat Nigeria and congratulating other winners “I feel very happy to have won this prize. I thank Etisalat for keeping their word. I congratulate other winners.”
According to him, such was his disbelief when contacted about his winning that he switched off his phone to ward-off what he perceived to be conmen. But that changed following a personal visit by Etisalat Nigeria officials who convinced him to come for his prize. “When they started calling me for the prize, I switched off my phone because I thought it was a fraud. Even after they came to call me personally, I thought it was a dream until I got here today and received my prize. I am truly, truly happy,” Lamido said.
