UBA Opens in Tanzania

United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, the pan-Africa financial services institution headquartered in Lagos Nigeria, has deepened its East African operations with the opening of United Bank for Africa (Tanzania) Ltd.
The formal opening of UBA Tanzania on Monday October 26, 2009, follows the receipt of regulatory approvals from the Bank of Tanzania; the country’s apex bank.
By this development the pan-African banking group that is now commonly referred to as ‘Africa’s Global bank’ has effectively extended its brand presence and financial services to people and businesses, in three of the most vibrant economies in East Africa; namely Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya.
Operating from 30C/30D Nyerere Road, opposite Tanzania Cigarettes Company Ltd, with a Head Office and branch, UBA Tanzania, is poised to offer banking services to both corporate and retail customers.
Ayobola Abiola, managing director UBA Tanzania, said “we have introduced innovative products and services that will delight the Tanzanian banking public”.
He expressed optimism that UBA would change the way people bank in Tanzania stating that it would in addition build a strong public, private partnership to complement government’s efforts on infrastructure development and open additional branches to deepen the penetration of banking services in the country.
United Bank for Africa Plc is one of Africa’s leading financial institutions currently operating in 13 countries including Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Chad , Benin , Kenya and Tanzania.
It plans to open an additional seven in Zambia, Gabon, Mali, Guinea Conakry, Congo Brazzaville and Congo Democratic Republic before the end of the year.
