 Dr. Ebong, group managing director/ CEO Union Bank Plc said the bank had earmarked N200 million for its farmer-customers in Edo State and revealed that the bank’s commitment to the real sector of the economy was about 30 per cent, far above the industry average of banks commitment to the sector.
He made this disclosure at the commissioning of the bank’s ultra-modern building on Mission Road, Benin, the Edo State capital.
Ebong stressed that since the first branch was established in Edo State 53 years ago, Union bank had not only helped to change the socio-economic landscape of the State, but had also continued to provide opportunities for the indigenes to develop themselves, besides creating banking culture.
He noted that the commissioning of the bank’s ultra-modern building demonstrated the continued commitment and desire to help in the development of not only Edo State, but also Delta State and Nigeria. He stated that the bank was willing and waiting to assist in fast tracking the desired progress and economic growth of Edo State through partnership in different areas of development.
Apart from planning to establish more branches in Edo State to further assist to grow its customers and prospective ones, he further said Union Bank was still lending very strongly to all the sectors of the economy despite the financial meltdown.
Dr. Pius Odubu, deputy governor of Edo State urged the bank to continue to expand its banking services and scope to the nooks and crannies of the state to further enhance its deposit base and create employment opportunities for the people of Edo State.
He stressed the need for the bank to improve on its corporate social responsibility to the people, apart from partnering with the government in the socio-economic development of the State.
