VIO Begins Computerized Vehicle Inspection

Directorate of Road Traffic Secretariat (DRTS) otherwise known as Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) has commenced the physical computerized vehicle inspection scheme, aimed at bolstering safety on roads in the Territory.

The initiative, which is being handled by private firm, Temple Resources Ltd (TPL) in partnership with the VIO, according to the directorate, is mandatory for all motorists in the FCT to  periodically surrender their vehicles for testing at the facility, in order to get a road worthy certificate from the VIO.

Consequently, corporate organisations, associations, unions and individual vehicle owners, whose vehicle particular expired at the end of Month of August, are advised to take such vehicle for computerized vehicle testing service at the designated centres in the Territory.

At present,  there are two pioneer operating testing centres located along Kubwa expressway and Kugbo (Nyanya-Keffi expressway) respectively.

Aliyu Danjuma Garba, director of FCT VIO,  said it is a facility that its time has come, considering the fact that the authorities have identified bad vehicles and bad drivers as causative factors in road traffic crashes in the territory.

He said with this (the scheme) coming on board, it will reduce incidence of having vehicles that are not worthy on our roads.

“Every motorist in the FCT is bond to come for a test; you have to surrender your vehicle for a test at any of the facilities, in order to get a road worthy certificate from the VIO.

“ But in the course of patrol, when it is observed that you (motorist)have not gotten your vehicle road worthiness certificate, you will be advised to visit the facility, so that you get your vehicle tested,” the director stressed.

He therefore called on the motoring public to embrace the initiative, because it only promotes maintenance culture for vehicle owners and gives a clear view on state of vehicles, instead of assumptions and poor results in terms of health status of vehicles.
