National telecoms carrier, Globacom, is to give assorted items, including Laptop computers, Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) television set and luxury cars to over 170 Nigerians in two subscriber reward schemes.

In a special offer titled Season’s Blast promo for post-paid subscribers, three will receive saloon cars – a Kia Rio, a Toyota Camry 2007 model and a Mercedes S350. Twenty-five others are to get Laptop computers and another 25 will receive LCD television sets.

Winners of the prizes were selected randomly at a draw conducted on in Lagos. Also drawn on the occasion were 100 new car winners in the on-going Win ‘N’ Rule promo.

The vehicles won are two Mercedes Benz S 350, 6 BMW 318i, 19 Peugeot 307 and 50 Kia Rio saloon cars.

Also at that event, 19 winners from a recent draw received the keys to their car prizes. Among the winners who were called at the draw event was a ram seller Mallam Abubakar Lawan from Alaba Rago in Lagos. A member of the audience who could speak Hausa language spoke with an ecstatic Lawan to announce his good fortune. Lawan was in Kano at the time of the draw.

Another winner was Temitope Akinsanya, a 400 level accounting student of the University of Benin. Some of the winners who were in Lagos rushed to the Lagos State Television premises, venue of the draw, to the cheers of the audience.

The draws were conducted by Chief Kolawole Oluwa, the Oluwa of Lagos, and an entourage of Lagos Chiefs. Others who conducted the draws were the Alhaji Murhi Gbadeyanka, chairman of Murhi International, owners of MITV and Star FM, Mr. James Akpadem, managing editor of Daily Independent, and Mr. Lucky Oko-oboh, managing director of Financial Standard.

After the draw, 17 Glo subscribers were presented with Kia Rio saloon cars, seven others with Nissan Sunny cars, four with Peugeot 307 saloon cars, one BMW 318i and another one Mercedes Benz S 350.9 car. These winners emerged from an earlier draw conducted in Ibadan in July 2008.

Speaking on the rationale behind the huge largesse at this time, Mr. Adewale Sangowawa the executive director, Human Resources, said that it was to acknowledge the massive support of Nigerians, which has sustained the network and helped it to garner over 20 million subscribers in five years.

"Globacom today, on its fifth anniversary, occupies leadership positions in many respects as far as telecoms in Nigeria are concerned; and at this point, we must not stop to recognise that we have been able to achieve this feat because Nigerians chose to believe in Globacom, chose to love Globacom and chose to patronise the network. This support and patronage have moved the network from being the last entrant to being the market leader," Sangowawa concluded.
