Chief Willie Obiano, Anambra state governor, has signed the contract for the modernisation and digitisation of the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), signifying the readiness of the state to transit from analogue to digital broadcasting.
International Telecommunication Union (ITU), has set June 17, 2015 deadline for the global industry to go digital.
But not wanting to be caught unawares, Obiano at the signing ceremony, said the contract signing ceremony was in fulfilment of his promise to Ndi Anambra to deliver a brand new broadcast organisation complete with modern equipment.
"We are happy and excited to be signing this contract today. ABS is an important state institution, we have confidence that the contractor COMFAX having gone through a rigorous tendering process will deliver according to the terms".
In his own address, Tony Onyima , commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, said that the contract signing was the first phase in the transformation of ABS, "The state government is also committed to building a brand new broadcast complex that will house the new equipments".
An elated Uche Nworah, managing director/CEO of Anambra Broadcasting Servicing said the management and staff of ABS are grateful to the Willie Obiano government for the various efforts aimed at repositioning the organisation.
"These are happy and interesting times for all of us at ABS. Clearly, the state government has set us on the path of growth and Ndi Anambra will shortly experience world class broadcasting content". He said
