Accra Institute of Technology graduates 572 students at 22nd ceremony

Accra Institute of Technology (AIT) has graduated 572 students from its doctoral, master’s and bachelor’s degree programmes at its 22nd Graduation Ceremony.

The graduating class comprised eight PhD scholars, 69 master’s graduates and 495 bachelor’s graduates.

Of the bachelor’s graduates, 405 completed campus-based programmes, while 90 graduated through the university’s Open University programmes.

A major highlight of the ceremony was the graduation of eight new PhD scholars, bringing the institution’s cumulative number of PhD graduates to more than 100.

The university has now produced PhD graduates on 14 occasions, according to its President, Prof. Clement K. Dzidonu.

Dzidonu described the achievement as a significant milestone for the relatively young institution, noting that more than half of AIT’s PhD graduates had attained professorial rank within three years of graduation.

He said AIT’s postgraduate research programmes covered Engineering, Information Technology, Education and Business Administration.

According to him, the university’s PhD graduates were also contributing to Ghana’s higher education sector, with its alumni serving as faculty members in several public and private universities.

He added that academic and senior administrative staff from almost all public and private universities in Ghana had undertaken doctoral studies at AIT.

Dzidonu said the latest graduation had further strengthened the pool of skilled professionals entering Ghana’s workforce, with 495 bachelor’s and 69 master’s graduates joining the university’s alumni community.

The Chairman of the AIT Board of Trustees, Emeritus Prof. Ivan Addae-Mensah, commended the institution for achieving the milestones despite its relatively young age.

He described AIT as “fast becoming a world-class private technological university” and congratulated the graduating students.

Addae-Mensah reminded the graduates that completing their studies was only the beginning, urging them to make effective use of the knowledge and opportunities acquired during their education.

Dzidonu also urged the graduates to embrace continuous learning in response to rapid changes driven by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies.

He encouraged the Class of 2026 to become “Sovereign Lifelong Learners” by taking responsibility for continuously developing their skills, knowledge and professional capabilities.

He challenged the graduates to “See the Opportunity, Explore the Possibility and Create the Difference”, urging them to use their education to build careers, create value and contribute to society.

AIT is accredited by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to offer campus-based and Open University undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

The university is affiliated with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) for campus-based undergraduate programmes in engineering, computer science and information technology, and business administration.

It is also affiliated with the Open University of Malaysia for Open University undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at master’s and PhD levels.
