One of the voices that now dominate the airwaves in cars, homes and offices and everywhere in Lagos is that of Chico Chukwuma Aligwekwe, the “Classic Driver” on Classic FM.
Classic FM became an instant classic when it went on air in 2009, despite the avalanche of radio stations in the Lagos market. The station swept Lagosians off their feet immediately with near extinct yet evergreen tones to refreshes their souls.
The station targets the affluent and mobile over 45 demographic - who are the high profile consumers in the local economy.
It also targets those who have a leaning towards the old school music and long for the music of yesteryears.
“Chico” as he is fondly called was born in London, United Kingdom.
He attended Eldon Junior School and was frequently called to the head teacher’s office or reported to his parents for singing or humming during classes or other school exercises, as his love of music manifested itself at that early age.
His parents decided to move back to Nigeria and the young “Chico” completed his primary education in Santa Maria School, Aba.
He went on to attend Holy Ghost College, Owerri, where he obtained his O'Levels. Obviously arts inclined, Chico opted to study Theatre Arts and obtained a BA Hons Degree from the University of Port Harcourt.
On graduation, he decided to return to the UK, where he studied several courses in Film, Media and Television at the University of North London.
While working for a local authority, he developed his writing techniques during his several years in the UK, and returned to Nigeria for good in 2003.
He currently writes short stories, songs, poems, drama and scripts for film as well as consulting for a number of Nollywood Producers.
Welcome to Classic Drive with Chico and the by the way “Did you know”.
