The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) at its 3rd Forum on Code of Corporate Governance charged telecom operators in the country to comply with the Code of Corporate Governance, CCG for efficient and transparent service delivery.
Prof Umar Garba Danbatta, EVC/CEO, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) made this charge during his opening remarks, Thursday, at the zonal sensitization workshop on the Code of Corporate Governance for the Telecoms Industry, held in Kano with the theme: “Telecommunications at the threshold of Data Revolution, the Place of Good Corporate Governance as Enabler for Its Speedy Attainment”.
Danbatta, said strict compliance to the Code of Corporate Governance has come to stay in Nigeria and is now compulsory for all telecom operators in the country.
He said the zonal sensitization workshop organized in Kano was geared towards sensitization and informing and enlightening the industry stakeholders and the general public of the existence of the code, and to critically draw their attention to the adopted international best practices and principles enunciated therein; as well as letting them know the fact that the code principles are now mandatory baselines expected to reflect the international features of the industry, which shall be adopted by all operators to which the Code is applicable.
The forum attracted prominent personalities like NBA President, A B Mahmoud SAN, Prof Munzali Jibrin and Prof Auwalu Yadudu among many others.
Other stakeholders in the industry that participated include licensed operators, experts in the industry and Telecom consumers.
