Etisalat Nigeria has announced the extension of its ongoing 25kobo per second promo to more of its subscribers across Nigeria as subscribers in states in the north east part of the country can now enjoy the discounted tariff to calls made to any national numbers in Nigeria.
The location-based promo was initially targeted at subscribers in the South-east and South-south parts of the country. Subscribers in Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe can now talk for 25kobo per second on the Etisalat network. The promo will run till 31 July.
As a way of giving subscribers a choice of participation, Etisalat has created an option that allows subscribers decide whether they want to enjoy the discounted rate or would prefer to call at normal rates. To enjoy the discounted promo rate, subscribers simply need to dial *230*1#. A notification message confirming the success of their request would then be sent to them. A minimal fee of N10 per day is charged for the service. Requests are automatically validated every morning as long as they have at least N10 on their phone by midnight.
Explaining the details of the repackaged promo, Ernest Akinlola, Etisalat director Marketing Segments Strategy, said that the subscription to the discounted tariff plan is possible anywhere within Etisalat coverage areas though only subscribers in the promo region of South-South, South-East and North-East will enjoy the benefit. According to him, “If a subscriber, who is already benefiting from the discount rate moves out of the promo coverage area, he would no longer benefit from the discount as normal call rates apply outside the areas. However, as soon as the customer returns to the coverage area and subscription is still valid, the discount rate applies immediately. ”
Akinlola further explained that the promo, designed to reward customers for their loyalty to the network, is being extended to enable Etisalat subscribers in the North-east region the opportunity of making calls at a lower rate.
The coverage area for the 25kobo promo in the South-South and South-East areas are Abia, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Cross Rivers, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, Enugu, Imo and Rivers. States that have now joined the promo in the North-East are Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe.
The 25kobo promo is another innovation Etisalat has unveiled in its less than two years of operations in Nigeria. Subscribers on its network enjoyed free talk time with the “talk for free” promo till May 31 while there is an ongoing Blackberry promo that offers different degrees of free subscription to new and existing customers when they purchase any of the Blackberry phones available on the Etisalat network. In November 2009, 20 year old medical student, Kizito Egeonu, won the one million dollar grand prize of the company’s 9jillions promo.
