Timothy Awogbemi, the chief executive officer of Mas Global Express and Logistics Limited has said that the indigenous courier firm’s strength and power to succeed lie in the commitment and goodwill of her members of staff who have over the years provided their exceptional service to the organization.
Awogbemi emphasized that the key thing in the express industry is to build confidence in customers by keeping to agreed time of delivery complimented by quality service.
Mas Global as a courier, freight forwarding, sea and air transportation company, according to Awogbemi is a firm in the up beat with partner offices in 360 countries and agent offices in 570 cities around the world. Awogbemi said the company is in business to handle in time delivery for customers thereby allowing them to focus on their core competence area.
In the era of globalization when there is increase in the movement of goods and services around the world, Awogbemi said courier and freight forwarding will continue to thrive. He however frowned that the Nigerian economy is import driven and few of such goods are manufactured locally.
Awogbemi is of the view that Information and Communications Technology has positively impacted on the way courier business is done. This he said has helped their customers to enjoy real time track and trace of cargoes through its website. He also said that, it has become easy for people to access manufacturers and suppliers around the world who at the end of the day rely on the courier companies to pick their goods and deliver them.
“Today, businesses  are not interested in keeping huge stock for longer period thereby resorting to just in time  importation which means, we arrange with our clients and we deliver their goods just at the time they need them”, Awogbemi said.
The Ekiti State born managing director took a look at the activities of the Courier Regulatory Department of Nipost and said the department is so much trying even as he suggested that the department would have done better if it is separated from Nipost and made to function independently.
“If CRD is a separate body that functions like a commission and not a department, it will function well in this capacity and will be better positioned to discuss security issues, local government charges and a host of others”, he said.
Awogbemi urged the government to create a conducive environment for businesses to thrive  and to also introduce measures that will compel courier operators to play according to the rules so as to see that honesty is introduced back to the business.
